We took the family to see \u201cThor:\u00a0 The Dark World\u201d over Thanksgiving weekend.\u00a0 It got a thumbs up from everyone.\u00a0 The plot was pretty clever for an action-adventure film, a genre not known for its creative plotting.\u00a0 The acting was also surprisingly good.\u00a0 I find Chris Hemsworth as Thor a bit wooden, but Jim pointed out to me that it\u2019s not a character where you want a lot of over-acting, so it\u2019s unclear whether he\u2019s a wooden actor or whether the Thor character needs to be portrayed that way (in which case, he\u2019s an excellent actor).\u00a0 Natalie Portman is excellent as always.\u00a0 Her role is a bit tricky, as it\u2019s also a role that doesn\u2019t call for a lot of stretch acting, but she plays her character in a restrained way, so it\u2019s neither stereotyped nor overdramatic.\u00a0 Tom Hiddleston as Loki has the best part.\u00a0 Loki is snarky, sarcastic, and the most complex character in the story.\u00a0 And he does an excellent job with the role.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also lots of explosions, battles, and dead bodies, a requirement for the Thor series.\u00a0 And, spoiler here, the good guys win.\u00a0 (At least for now.)\u00a0 It\u2019s all very satisfying.<\/p>\n
All in all, Thor is a fast-paced, cleverly plotted and surprisingly well-acted action-adventure movie.\u00a0 It\u2019s an excellent addition to the Marvel series.\u00a0 The family collectively highly recommends it.\u00a0 And don\u2019t forget to stay through the credits when you go see the movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
